Recording Software Audio Editors

Here is a great article on Home Recording Studio Software
Digital audio editors, or wave editors, are programs that give the computer recording studio great creative power. Once upon a time, in order to edit a vocal for example, a technician would have to take out a knife and literally cut and paste a reel of tape. Now, cutting and pasting are the most basic of functions of audio editors.

Some of the things that can be done with an audio editing program include:

  • changing the note of a singer if they are a bit off in their performance

  • fading in and fading out

  • slowing down the track without changing the pitch

  • completely transforming the timbre of the voice

  • equalization

  • cleaning up recorded track

  • noise reduction

  • audio restoration

  • volume compression and normalization

  • reverberation

  • sound effects

The more advanced audio editors are constantly bringing new ideas and potential to their arsenal of filters and special effects. They are getting faster, better quality at basic audio improvement functions, and more affordable.

You will want an audio editor to tweak your vocals, to add effects to all your tracks, to clean up any mistakes or background noise and to make your tracks sound professional. There are many levels of audio editor to choose from, including some wonderful shareware programs and some complete studio package professional programs.
